Abu Dhabi, 24 Jan 2015: Bunts Dubai both Men and Women Throwball teams won comfortably to lift the KCO Throwball Tournament 2015 trophies while Indian Spikers Dubai managed to grab the Volley Ball trophy narrowly from the Karavali Milan Dubai.
KCO Throwball tournament began at 8;30am at the Abu Dhabi Indian School on 23rd Jan 2015, with a welcome by team member Vivek and invited the guests and sponsors of the day to the dais. The guests included Mr. Sudhir Kumar Shetty (COO Global UAE Exchange) Mr. Ronald Pinto (Hysna), Mr. Natarajan (President, ISC), Mr & Mrs. Leo Lavina Rodrigues, and Mr. Sarvotham Shetty (President, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha). They were honoured with flower bouquets by the KCO members.
The KCO President Micheal D’Silva accorded a warm welcome to all the dignitaries on the dais and thanked them for their continuos support for KCO tournament. He also thanked all the teams those who are participating in the tournament and wished them good luck. Mr. Sudhir Kumar Shetty and Mr. Leo Rodrigues wished good luck to the teams.
Oath taking ceremony was taken prior to start of the games and all the guests released the balloons on the air and inaugurated the tournament.
The following teams participated in the whole day Throwball and Volley Ball matches held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere:
Men Throwball teams:
Bunts Dubai, KCO Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, Mogaveers Dubai, Konkans Dubai, Mangalore Konkans, and Pacific Stars.
Women Throwball teams:
Bunts Dubai, KCO Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, Mogaveers Dubai, Konkans Dubai, Mangalore Konkans, Specific Stars, Abu Dhabi Indian School and St. Josephs Abu Dhabi.
Volley Ball Teams:
Saifah Chilly Willy, Karaval Milan A, Karaval Milan B and Indian Spikers.
In the league matches Karnataka Sangha, Bunts Dubai, KCO and Konkans Dubai confortably reached the Semi-Finals of Men’s teams while in the Women’s teams: Konkans Dubai, Bunts Dubai, KCO and Mangalore Konkans reached semi-finals.
However, in the finals, Bunts Dubai (Men) beat Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha while Bunts Dubai ladies beat Mangalore Konkans comfortably and won the trophies.
In the Volley Ball matches, Indian Spikers eventually managed to over come Karaval Milan A and won the match in the three sets. 25-23, 18-25, 14-16.
In the prize distributing Ceremony chief guest and main sponsor of the day Mr. Ronal Pinto appreciated the KCO for organizing the tournament very successfully and also thanked all the teams for playing the games in a sportsman spirit. He congratulated the winners and wished good luck for the loosers and encouraged them to play better in the forthcoming matches.
Canute Pinto, one of the prominent members of KCO proposed the vote of thanks.
Mr. Sarvotham Shetty (President Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha) Announced the forthcoming Silver Jubilee Throwball tournament which will be held on the same Abu Dhabi Indian School ground on 30th Jan 2015. He requested all teams to participate and also announced that there will be relay and tug-of-war matches prior to the tournament matches and requested all teams to come before 8:30am and participate in large numbers.
Vivek Serrao invited all the referees of the day namely: Annet Menezes, Cynthia D’Cunha, Dey, Satish Shetty, Mewyn D’Souza and Vivek Serrao. They were honoured during the ceremony. He also announced the best players of the tournament namely:
Sujit – Best Striker (Indian Spikers) – Volley Ball
Stanely – Best All Rounder (Karaval Milan A) – Volley Ball
Shashi Lekha – Best Striker (Bunts Dubai) Women Throwball
Jane – Best All Rounder (Mangalore Konkans) Women Throwball
Deepak - Best Striker (Bunts Dubai) Men Throwball
Dinraj – Best All-rounder (Bunts Dubai) Men Throwball
All the winners were were distributed with individual medals and trophies prior to closing of ceremony.
