Mangaluru, 19 Nov 2014: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport have busted another modus operandi of gold smuggling and seized gold weighing 1816.550 grams totally, in 2 separate cases valued at over Rs 48 lac.
In the first case, the officers seized gold in the form of 7 numbers of 10 grams gold bars, totally weighing 816.550 grams and valued at over Rs.21 lac concealed in innerwear from the possession of a lady passenger: forty-eight-year-old Khairun Gulam Mohammed Shaikh, wife of Ali Mohammed, residing at Masjid Chowk Main Road, Sutrapada, Junagadh, who arrived at Mangalore International Airport by Air India Express flight number IX814 from Dubai on Wednesday November 19 at 7.45am.
In a similar modus operandi on the same day, the officers seized gold in the form of 1 kilograms gold bar valued at over Rs 26 lac concealed in innerwear from the possession of another lady passenger: forty-eight-year-old Mariyomma Ottapokkil, Methal Chalil, Manipuram PO, Kozhikode, Kerala, who arrived at Mangalore International Airport by Jet Airways flight number 9W531 from Dubai on Wednesday November 19 at about 8.45am.
Both the said lady passengers were later arrested and produced before the Judicial Magistrate.
Further investigation in both the cases is under progress.
