Mangaluru, 12 Nov 2014: Prajna Counseling Centre organized an interactive-meet of beneficiaries with the heads of district administration at their hall here on Tuesday November 11.
Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, SP Dr Sharanappa, district Legal Services Authority executive member judge Ganesh, Infosys Technologies – Mangalore executives Dhiraj and Vasudev, Prajna Counseling Centre director Professor Hilda Rayappan were present at the dais.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that NGOs play key role in implementing government schemes especially meant for women and children within the limits set by the authorities. Mangalore city has over 5 lac populations and Dakshina Kannada district has over 22 lac populations, that necessitate more NGOs to reach the state benefits to deserving people, said DC Ibrahim. Meanwhile, DC Ibrahim advised Prajna Counseling Centre to expand their network in neighboring districts including other taluks of Dakshina Kannada district. The broken families, alcohol addiction and drug abuse requires NGOs specialized in dealing with them, said DC Ibrahim.
The judge Ganesh highlighted Supreme Court’s directive with regard to Child Rights, nutrition and women empowerment that will lead to betterment of society.
SP Dr Sharanappa said that India is a young nation striving for women empowerment, child rights despite several obstacles. The mothers can play key role in shaping better future for their children by getting adjusted to jet-set age by educating them. NGOs can be harbingers of change in the society, said SP Dr Sharanappa. He also offered assurances to Prajna Couseling Centre by law enforcement agencies.

The students of Ranipura School presented thought-provoking dance on children’s right. Professor Hilda welcomed the gathering. Shanish proposed vote of thanks. Dhanalaxmi compered the programme.
Prajna Counseling Centre is the premier NGO established in city nearly 3 decades ago and has over 80 fulltime employees, working in different units such as Child Fund India, alcohol de-addiction centre, orphanages, self-help groups (SHGs)etc.
