Udupi, 15 November 2010: As preparation for the annual parish feast of the Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi, the Confraternity Sunday (Compricho Aithar) was observed with a solemn Eucharistic procession through the streets of the township. The Catholic community of Udupi had an adoration Mass in the Open ground in the evening in spite of the threats of the cloudy weather with slight drizzle half an hour before the commencement of the Holy Eucharistic celebration. It was indeed a miracle that there was no heavy rain and the entire service was not disrupted.
The holy Mass on the open ground ended with devotional hymns sung by the choir and inspiring homily by Rev. Fr. Vincent D’Souza, Parish Priest of Mother of Sorrow Church at Bola, Kasargod District, Kerala . Fr. Vincent said that God is living, awe-inspiring and loving God and he remains always with his people in happiness and in sorrows.
After the mass the Holy Eucharist adorned in a golden coloured tabernacle and mounted on a decorated vehicle was taken in procession through the main road of Udupi and the faithful followed the procession. The Shanthipura Pambur Band played devotional hymns and the choir and the faithful added their sweet voice to the melody. It was a very sweet evening glorifying the Lord in the Public and hundreds of Non-Catholic brothers and sisters watched the procession in rapt attention. It was a pleasant sight to see the procession with banners and lighted candles in their hands.
The function following the mass and the Eucharistic Procession ended with thanks- giving to the chief celebrant and the volunteers for their services. The Parish Priest thanked the Police Officers who made good arrangement of the traffic for the smooth passage of the procession.
The participants in the Confraternity celebration were served with meat pups and soft drinks, which were sponsored by Mr. Ronald Cabral, who has fire-works business man at Udupi. Incidentally it was his 50th Birthday.
