Mangalore, 01 Nov 2014: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC) - Vamanjoor, here celebrated Kannada Rajyotsav here on Saturday November 1. The function was organized by the cultural Committee of the College with great enthusiasm.
Dr Anjali Ganesh, Professor in the department of business administration at SJEC was the chief guest of the occasion.
SJRC director-designate Fr Ajith Menezes, assistant director Fr Rohith D’Costa, principal Dr Joseph Gonsalvis and vice principal Dr Rio D’Souza, Vice Principal were present on the occasion.
Dr Anjali Ganesh hoisted Karnataka flag while the students sang ‘Jai Bharata Jananiya Tanujate, led by Sweethin Hartman, lecturer in the department of mechanical engineering, captured the spirit of the day.
Dr Anjali Ganesh in her address said that Kannada language has a strong foundation and further added that it is in the hands of Kannadigas to ensure the language to scale greater heights. She also spoke about the beauty and simplicity of Kannada language and threw light on the achievements of Kannadigas in various spheres of life. Participation of students in the various competitions was encouraged and the prizes were awarded to the winners in different categories. The programme concluded with the distribution of sweets to the students and faculty.
After the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations, a Swachh Bharat campaign was held wherein, students and faculty members of various departments and Association of SJEC came together to clean the area spanning from SJEC College entrance gate till the Mangala Jyothi Circle.
Fr Ajith Menezesflagged off the drive.
The local corporator Hemalatha R Salian was also present for the drive. The drive witnessed active participation of more than 250 students and faculty members.
MBA II year student Mohammed Tansif compered the programme.
