Kundapur, 16 Oct 2014: A blood-stained body of a person of fisheries community was found on the bank of Panchagangavali tributary, near Ring Road along Ferry Road , here on Wednesday October 15 evening.
The deceased has been identified as twenty-two-year-old Pramod, son of Ganapati Karvi, a resident of Karvikeri, Melkeria, here.
Pramod was friendly with fisheries community, sand miners and shell pickers in his locality. The tense situation prevailed soon after the breaking news in the neighbourhood.
The town police first placed the dead body at the morgue of state-run hospital here. Meanwhile, it would be taken to Kasturba Hospital, Manipal for an autopsy, to ascertain the exact cause of death, informed the sub-inspector Nasser Hussein.
The mystery shrouds as the deep wounds were found on the body and locals allege the sand mafia is behind this act.
Pamod’s father Ganapati suspected the role of sand mafia in the first information report (FIR). The investigations are underway.
