Mangalore, 14 Oct 2014: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport have detected another modus operandi of gold smuggling and seized one gold bar, totally weighing 1000 grams valued at Rs 27.10 lac, concealed in the life jacket bag placed below the seat of the Jet Airways flight 9W531 which arrived from Dubai at 9.00am on Monday October 13.
The gold bar weighing 1 kilogram was brought by the passenger Madapalli Mammad Ismail, a resident of Napoklu, Kodagu, Karnataka who arrived at Mangalore International Airport from Dubai vide the above said flight and kept the said gold below the seat. The said passenger has been arrested for the above offence and produced before the judicial magistrate who remanded him to the judicial custody.
The above operation was conducted under the supervision of Krishna Kumar Prasad, deputy commissioner of customs, Mangalore International Airport by a team lead by Superintendents H B Venkatesh, R S Venkataram, A Panduranga Naik, R GGaonkar, K Ramakrishnan, K Nirmala and inspectors, Subhendu Ranjan Behera, Kamlesh Kumar Meena, Rajesh Jha and Havaldar Manjunath.
Further investigation is under progress, under the guidance of the commissioner of customs, Mangalore.
