Mumbai, 09 Oct 2014: The regular passengers of KSRTC Volvo bus services from Mangalore – Mumbai – Mangalore are extremely inconvenienced owing to exorbitant fares.
All though the distance between Mangalore – Mumbai and Bangalore – Mumbai approximately the same; the huge differences in bus fares is a major cause of worry for the regular passengers. It’s significant that KSRTC charges Rs 1,750 per passenger on week days and charges Rs 2,000 on weekends from Fridays to Sundays. Meanwhile, the private Volvo bus operators charge Rs 1,370, for sleeper coach Rs 1,575, general passengers Rs 1,300. The passengers travelling on shoestring budget when enquired the bus agents about the higher bus fares, they have no reply. It seems KSRTC is swindling the passengers because none has time to question them. The passengers will have to face this injustice every time they travel on state-run Volvo buses.
The hoteliers of undivided Dakshina Kannada and key office bearers of NGOs in Mumbai will not feel the pinch of exorbitant bus fares. It does make difference for restaurant staffs who are working in Mumbai with a take home pay of Rs 8,000 per month, because when they travel to hometowns with family, they had to spend nearly Rs 16,000 on to and fro journey. The rich employers who know this fact, does not take up this issue with the concerned authorities in the interest of hapless employees who shared this view with this reporter.
It’s the high time that the community Associations takes this issue seriously with the concerned authorities, because the Mumbaikars go on vacation to hometowns during May – June, December and Dasara – Deepavali, expressed a regular passenger with wife and 2 children.
