Mangalore, Oct 07, 2014: Mangalore Dasara Utsav that is being held at Gokarnanat temple, Kudroli, here is gaining popularity over the years.
The city-folks throng the streets during night-long procession of idols of Navadurgadevi on Vijayadashami. The procession that begins from Kudroli temple, covering Mannagudde, Lady Hill roundabout, Lalbagh, Ballalbagh, PVS, City Centre, Hampankatta, Pereira Hotel, Car Street concludes at the same temple.
Several tableaus partake in the mega procession. Meanwhile, its for the first time Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy partaken with their tableau, depicting Konkani folk-art, early Konkani newspapers and pictures of distinguished community men.
Vijay Narayan Siddi group from Yellapura, Uttar Kannada presented folk dances and songs. Anand Siddi, Ramanat Siddi, Ramakrishna Siddi, Shekar Siddi, Sanya Siddi, Subash Siddi, Satish Siddi and Chandu Siddi presented folk-singing, accompanied by traditional instrumentalists.
Vitori Karkal presented info on the splendour of Konkani. The Academy member Lawrence D’Souza has co-ordinated the show.
