Udupi: Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi observed with Cleanliness Drive in Moodubelle

Udupi, 04 October 2014: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2 October 2014, Belle Grama Panchayat observed the cleanliness week. Rajendra Shetty, Presdient of Belle Grama Panchayat and PDO Mrs. Benny Quadros inaugurated the Cleanliness Week. Other members of the panchayat were present for the inaugural function.

 

To spread awareness among the villagers regarding the need to keep their surroundings clean, the panchayat members along with the school children took a procession on the main road of the township.

 

 

The cleanliness drive is in accordance with the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to observe “Swach Bharat Abhiyan” throughout the country. To launch this programme, the Prime Minister had chosen the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as Mahatama Gandhi had given importance to cleanliness.

In a programme held in Belle Church Aided Higher Primary School on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi school children who had won various sports competitions at the zonal, taluk and district level were honoured. The headmaster of the school Sylvester Mathais as well as the president of the Parents-Teachers Association-Gerald Fernandes and President of the Old Students Association Rajendra Shetty and teachers were present.
