Mangalore, 26 Sep 2014: The drug awareness is essential among the students because of late teens are increasingly targeted by the peddlers, said University College principal Dr Satyanarayan Mallipatna.
Dr Satyanaran was speaking after inaugurating seminar on alcohol and drug abuse at Dr Shivaram Karant stage of University College, here on Thursday September 25. It was organized jointly by Karnataka state alcohol eradication Board, Bangalore, information and public relations department.
The drug-coated sweets addict the teens who spoil their future by becoming victims of such substance. The addicts lose their mental agility and reach a stage in life to commit any crime to satiate their addiction, said Dr Satynarayan.
Meanwhile, Dr Satyanarayan appealed to the students to focus their energies in studies and moral values to keep away from drug abuse.
The health department education officer Jayaram Poojary said that the recent growth in income levels attributed for lavish spending and teens addicted to ill habits. It’s in a way leads to ongoing poverty and consequences on national economy, said Poojary.
University College fine arts union president Dr Nagaratna Rao was present.
The district information B A Khadersha delivered the introductory address. University College Youth Red Cross Society chief Dr Ganapati Gowda compered the programme. NSS officer Dr Dayanand Nayak proposed vote of thanks.
