Boston/USA, 18 Sep 2014: The Mangalorean Catholic community of New England along with their families and friends celebrated the solemn Feast of Nativity of Our Lady, Monti Feast at Chelmsford Village Club House, Chelmsford MA here on Saturday September 13.
A large number of Catholics from New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and far off places, assembled to participate in this Feast.
The celebrations commenced with showering of flowers in honor of Infant Mary by the children to the hymns ‘Sakkad Sangata Melyan’ and ‘Moriyek Hogolsiam,’ followed by a Holy Mass in Konkani celebrated by Fr Maurice D’Souza CSC.
Fr D’Souza in his homily emphasized the importance of this feast in Catholic families; the devotion to the Blessed Mother which brings joy, happiness and unity amongst the families.
The choir which sang traditional konkani hymns was well orchestrated by Rajani Sequeira and Fredrick Fernandes.
The cultural events included songs, dances, games and traditional fashion show by the children.
The Lungi dance choreographed by Renita Mendonca which got everyone on the dancing floor was a memorable event.
Everyone enjoyed the fellowship meal (Novem Jevan) which included several types of vegetarian dishes along with Sannas, Pothrade and Vorn.

This event was organized by the members of Bellevision USA under the leadership of Victor Sequeira. The Mangalorean community of New England greatly appreciates their efforts in preserving and promoting the rich Mangalorean tradition, culture and values.
