Mangalore, Sep 15, 2014: The annual general body meeting of Konkani Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) was held at Sahodaya Hall, Balmatta, here on Saturday September 13 evening.
KORWA president Louis Lobo presided the programme and welcomed the gathering.
KORWA general secretary Jessie Pinto briefed about the social welfare activities that are being undertaken during the past years.
NRI from Saudi Arabia Arphita Shetty joined KORWA as patron member introduced by veteran multi-talented musician and orator Albert Jossie Rego.
Speaking on the occasion, Louis Lobo said that this year they planned to hold Christmas Tree programme with 800 to 900 orphan children/specially-abled/elderly form 13 Ashrams across the city. He further said that altogether nearly 1,400 including 800 to 900 orphans and members/well wishers are likely to attend this year’s mega programme planned at Loyola Hall of St Aloysius College, here onDecember 13.
KORWA public relations officer John Valerian Tauro, co-ordinator Joe Martis was present.
Gretta and Flora rendered the prayers to begin the programme.
The new governing council was formed, Louis Lobo (president), Elias Sanctis (vice resident), Patrick Pinto (treasurer), Jessie Pinto (general secretary, Flora (joint secretary), David D’Souza (cultural secretary), Joe Martis (co-ordinator) and John V Tauro (PRO).
Winifred Crasta and Nancy Menezes Kundapur (Kuwait) volunteered to be member of executive Committee.
The programme concluded with sumptuous dinner on the occasion.
KORWA has been helping the less fortunate students by donating notebooks/stationery/plates in both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district. It has been distributing food at AIDS patients care homes/old age homes and also entertaining them, donating money to care for terminally ill and many other humanitarian services. It has also successfully taken up the cause resuming Air India Express direct flight between Kuwait and Mangalore which would begin from October 27.
