Kuwait, 14 Sep 2014: Konkani community of Abbassiya, here celebrated Monti Fest at Integrated Indian School auditorium, here on Friday September 12 at 5.30pm.
The little children honoured Infant Mary by showering choicest of flowers by singing Mangalorean traditional hymn, Sokkad Sangata Melya ani Moriyek Hogolsiya.
Fr Paul Melvyn D’Souza, Abbassiya - St Daniel Comboni parish priest Fr Noel D’Almeida, Fr Lopez, Fr Xavier D’Souza celebrated the festal Eucharistic Celebration here on Friday evening.
The Deacon Silvester D’Souza conducted the liturgical service. Konkani choir was led by Ronnie Jasmine D’Cunha with musicians Valerian Fernandes and Joyesten.
As part of the cultural programme that was themed ‘Woman,’ choreographed the presentations on Mother Nature, Mother Theresa, Negative Mother, Heavenly Mother and a specially composed in honour of Mother Mary were presented through enacting, dances and singing. To Emphasize on the theme and along with these other traditional items like Novench Jevan, an action song on ‘Make me an instrument of peace,’ Konkani dance ‘Hey Ho,’ Farmers folk dance, Vodlimaichi Kata, Goan action song, Mando and jokes etc, beautifully presented by the parishioners and enthusiastic kids.
It followed the traditional serving of mouth-watering Mangalorean vegetarian food on plantain leaves and also savouring of ‘Vorn’ sweet dish. The sugarcane especially brought from Mangalore was distributed among the children as per Mangalorean tradition. The delicacies were prepared by M & M Confectionary with the vegetables and ingredients brought from Mangalore on the occasion.
Over 1,500 people partaken and enjoyed this unique Abbassiya Konkani families traditional Monti Fest.
The event was planned by the Konkani community of St Daniel Comboni parish, Abbassiya under the guidance of parish priest Fr Noel Almeida and Ronnie Fernandes which was a huge success and will be remembered for years to come.
Maxim D’Souza thanked all the donors, well wishers and benefactors who contributed for the success of the event.
