Mangalore, 31 Aug 2014: The foundation laying ceremony to build a new community hall at St Joseph the Worker church, Vamanjoor, here was held on Sunday August 31 morning.
Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel was the chief guest of the occasion.
The mayor Mahabala Marla, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Vamanjoor assistant parish priest Fr Melvyn D’Souza, ZP member Melvyn D’Souza, corporator Hemalata R Salian, St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC) assistant director Fr Ajit Menezes, SRA Provincial Superior Sr Zeena, Bethany Provincial Superior Sr Mariette, Vamanjoor parish council vice president Roshan M Kamat, secretary Joachim D’Souza, Lawrence Coutinha, contractor Richard Rodrigues were present on the dais.
The city lawyer and Mangalore diocesan pastoral council secretary M P Noronha, SJEC designated director Fr Rohit D’Costa, TP members, gram panchayat members, parishioners were also present.
MP Nalin after laying the foundation for constructing new community hall at Vamanjoor parish, here on Sunday morning, said that it’s the need of the society in the ever growing locality of Vamajoor that is a satellite city. It is a hub for all round development – educational, social, commercial, and cultural. Community hall was a need of the hour and it is long cherished desire of the entire society, said MP Nalin. He also assured his wholehearted co-operation in this regard.
Cordel parish priest Fr Valerian Pinto held the prayer service and blessed the building site.
Speaking on the occasion, MLC Ivan D’Souza, congratulated the organizers for gathering the congregation of all communities and for the wonderful arrangements made on the occasion. He recalled the proverb, ‘Well begun is half done,’ and he wished the construction work will be completed in a record time.
The mayor Mahabala Marla said that the civic body stands second in Karnataka with regard to development and Vamanjoor stands first in the growth rate. He stressed the need of a community hall in such a locality. He assured his wholehearted co-operation in clearing documentation and assured to provide basic infrastructure facilities needed for the citizens of the locality.
Vamanjoor parish priest Fr Cyprian Pinto welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory address. Roshan M Kamat proposed vote of thanks. Felix Saldanha compered the programme.
The students of Vidya Jyothi High School welcomed the dignitaries with the melodious band.
