Mangalore, Aug 19, 2014 : Konkani is one amongst Indian languages that has been included in eighth schedule of national constitution.
Konkani that was not fostered by royal kingdoms, but survived only by speaking for thousands of years. It was a milestone for Konkani that was included in national constitution on August 20 1992.
Konkani organizations are celebrating this historical event since the past 22 years. Meanwhile, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will be celebrating this event in a unique manner this year.
Konkani Manyata Day will be held at Town Hall, here on Wednesday August 20 from morning till evening.
The mayor Mahabala Marla will inaugurate the event by hoisting Konkani flag here on Wednesday at 9.00am.
Dakshina Kannada deputy director of public instructions (DDPI) Walter D’Mello and District Institute Education of Teachers (DIET) principal Cyprian Monteiro will be the guests of honor.
Cultural talent contest
The cultural talent contest for students of schools, colleges and organizations will be held on Wednesday from 9.15am to 3.30pm. Twenty-three groups will partake in this event.
Konkani devotional singing
Kasturi and group will present Konkani devotional singing programme on Wednesday from 3.30pm to 5.00pm.

Konkani Fellowship
The fellowship will be awarded to researchers Dr Jayavant Nayak for his book Traditional celebrations in Konkani speaking communities, Geeta Shenoy for her book Women litterateurs contributions to Konkani and Manjunat Kamat for Konkani journalism.
Valedictory function
The state forests and Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister Ramanat Rai will inaugurate valedictory function here on Wednesday at 5.00pm.
Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo will preside the programme.
The state health and family welfare minister U T Khader will be the chief guest of the occasion.
The state youth affairs minister Abayachandra Jain, MLA Moideen Bava, MLC Ivan D’Souza and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will be the guests of honor.
Dr Jayavant Nayak will deliver keynote address on Konkani Manyata Day.

Naveen Lobo and Geeta Kini will put up food stalls at the venue.
Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino urged Konkani speaking community to attend the programme in large numbers.
