Mangalore: CWC President thanks NGOs, District Admin, Govt Depts in creating awareness on Child Righ

Mangalore, 09 Jul 2014: Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Dakshina Kannada (DK) district in its three-years-nine-months tenure was able to educate the civil society on child rights with the support of non government organizations (NGOs), government departments and district administration, said CWC president Asha Nayak.
Addressing media persons at press meet held at Hotel Woodlands, here on Wednesday July 9 at 3.30pm, Asha Nayak thanked Wenlock Hospital, the Regional Advanced Paediatric Care Center (RAPCC), Balasanjivini, all departments of government especially women and child welfare department, police, education and the media for bringing awareness about rights of the children to the public and the work of the CWC in furthering the same.
Asha Nayak further said that the Institutions for orphan and single parent children which were hither to running randomly were brought under the surveillance of CWC by registration and licensing of the same under Juvenile Justice Act. Initially 45 Institutions were registered by the women and child welfare department, later it has risen to nearly 52, thereby by bringing in decorum in the Institutions.
CWC in a period of three-year-nine-months has handled 1,138 cases of which 1,121 have been settled. Out of 17 pending cases, inquiries are underway in 4 different cases at various courts of the district. CWC given Rs 7.15 lac as sponsorship for education to 125 beneficiaries through Integrated Child Protection Society, said Asha Nayak.
More than 50 cases of sexual abuse under the Protection of Children under Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have been handled by CWC, which involved rehabilitation, counseling, protection and care, added Asha Nayak.
CWC has collaborated with Yenepoya Hospital for giving perennial aid to the registered children institutions in and around Mangalore. A data base of all children in the institutions under Juvenile Justice Act has been created. All personal date of every child has been recorded. Thirty-seven children have been given in adoption through government recognized adoption agency, emphasized Asha Nayak.
CWC in association with National Institute of Technology of Karnataka (NITK) has launched www.jagriti.com an online platform and mobile app dealing with child labor and child abuse ina n attempt to catalyze and contribute to social welfare efforts, by attempting to use the power of crowd sourcing in problem identification and resolution and by providing an anonymous straightforward platform for reporting issue, said Asha Nayak.
