Abu Dhabi: Colourful Baisakhi Festival celebrated by ILA at Khalifa Park

Abu Dhabi, 13 Apr 2014: Indian Ladies Association Abu Dhabi hosted vibrant Baisakhi harvest festival for the first time at Khalifa Park on Friday,11th April 2014.  The colourful festival started at Islam Garden 6.30pm with Traditional dress with Punjabi Dhol Welcome.


Baisakhi is a festival celebrated across Northern India, especially in Punjab region.  Festival of Baisakhi is usually celebrated with lot of joy, fervor and enthusiasm in the northern state of Punjab and Haryana. It is also the time when the harvest is ready to cut and store or sell. Prosperous with the bountiful produce they look forward to celebrating Baisakhi with all eagerness. Farmers also celebrate Baisakhi as a Thanksgiving Day.  For the Sikh community Baisakhi has a very special meaning. It was on this day that the last Guru Gobind Singh organized the Sikhs into Khalsa or the pure ones. By doing so, he eliminated the differences of high and low and established that all human beings were equal.


The Indian Ladies Association hosted Baisakhi for the first time which was celebrated on Friday, 11th April 2014 in Khalifa Park’s Islamic Garden from 6.30 PM onwards.


All members and guests were dressed in colourful Punjabi attire and were greeted with live dhol.  The event started off with soulful Bollywood song by Ms.Jemmy, accompanied by Master Vasant on the keyboard. This was followed by a Punjabi song by Mr. Onkar.


 An energetic Bhangra dance was performed by a group of young boys and girls called " Desi youth " who performed  at the ILA event.  GurinderjitsinghSidhu,  Kajol Gupta,  Jaspreet Singh Rehnsi,  Harpreet Singh Rehnsi,  Raja Singh,  Charankamal Kaur,  Onkar Singh Khulasher it was  mindblowing dhamaka of the day as huge crowd enjoyed with thrilling applause.

 

 

A traditional Punjabi dance Gidda, was performed by the ladies of ILA. Later all members of ILA joined them. An impromto fashion parade was conducted for the ladies dressed in the Punjabi attire. All were declared winners!!  To get the festive feel, a mela atmosphere was created, where in the guests enjoyed kulfi,  lassi, laddoo, and there were various other stalls which offered handicraft, jewellery and  dresses. The caterers for the evening, Maharajah Palace, served hot and delicious barbeques and parathas, and authentic Sarso da Saag, PindiChaana, mouthwatering Butter Chicken, Dal  Tarka etc. to the merrymakers. Later they danced till midnight to the music of dhol and DJ.


On the occasion they thanked Al Khawarizmi for their grand support and gift hampers for the guests, also they thanked  Abu Dhabi Municipality and the security team of Khalifa Park for their full support, the event was journey of back home memories for expats.
