M’lore : Talk on Kidney Diseases - Awareness and Prevention

Mangalore, 28 Mar 2014: 26th March ended the WORLD KIDNEY WEEK Celebrations in Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore. After Quizomania, UG quiz and a Rally, on Awareness of Kidney Diseases and Organ Donation, a talk on Awareness of Kidney Diseases and their Prevention was organized by the Medical Students Association of India (MSAI) and the NSS Unit of Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore in the Decennial Memorial Hall at 3:45pm to 4:45pm for a crowd of about 400 medical, nursing and paramedical students by Dr Prashant, Head of Department of Nephrology, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore.
The talk was more of an orientation session on how prevalent yet fatal kidney diseases are yet how easily they can be detected. Dr Prashant also spoke on the preventive aspects and treatment of kidney diseases in general and specific to common kidney ailments. The talk was followed by a question answer round.
Dr B Rekha, NSS Staff Coordinator, Dr Malati, HOD of Biochemistry, FMMC, Dr Narissimhan Rao, Associate Professor, Department of Physiology, FMMC, Dr Nicole Perreira, Department of Pharmacology, Dr Anup Kumar, Department of Microbiology and Dr Avinash, Department of Microbiology were present for the programme.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Melanie Yvonne Pinto, NSS Student Coordinator following which the students were given a small orientation of the MSAI. The programme was compered by Ms Amanda, Second year MBBS student, FMMC . All in all the NSS signed off from a meaningful World Kidney Week.
