Udupi, 24 Mar 2014: Melpete Friends Moodubelle presented the Tulu hilarious social play “Nank Matherla Bod” with a message of family unity, with a view to raise funds for their social activities on Monday, 24 March 2014 at 7.30 pm near the Petrol Pump.
The play “Nank Matherla Bod”, written by Navin Shetty Alake and directed by Lion Kishore D. Shetty was enacted by Kusalda Kalavidharu of Lakumi Group. The three hour long play revolving around the family of a landlord-two sons and their wives and a daughter and her husband and daughter. Other characters included the sister of the patriarch, her husband and their wayward son, a Christian neighbor named Lilly, two of his servants, driver of his eldest son owning a bar in Mumbai and the maid servant.
The entire play was quite gripping with hilarious dialogues and situational comedy interspersed with story-line in which initially the family has everything going smooth, but certain incidents bring about bitterness among the family members. However, the tragic death of the grand-daughter of the patriarch due to a bus accident on her way to native place once again unites the family.
Being professionals, all the actors had done full justice to their roles. The sets, lighting, sound and music were quite effective.
During the interval, the Melpete Friends honored Peter Raphael Aranha, the former headmaster of the Church Aided Higher Primary School, Moodubelle. Mukunda Kamath, one of the prominent members of the Melpete Friends offered shawl, garland and fruits-tray and Varadaraj Kamath (Raju) presented the memento.
The Melpete Friends, Moodubelle was constituted eight years ago by like-minded people in order to promote social work and provide financial and material assistance to the needy.
