Udupi: Foundation laid to erect mega sculpture of Madwa Acharya at Kunjarugiri

Udupi, 21 Mar 2014: The foundation laying ceremony to sculpture the statue of contemporary visionary Madwa Acharya out of a single boulder and erect at the precinct of Kunjaru temple, near Pajaka, which is the birth place of Madwa Acharya was held here on Friday March 21. It was idea conceived by Swami Vidhyadisha of Palimar mutt, in order to erect the monolithic sculpture at Kunjaru.
Swami Vishwapriya of Adamar mutt laid the foundation after ceremonious religious worship at Kunjaru temple, near here on Friday morning.
Swami Vishwapriya in his message to the devotees said that worshiping the God and social service leads to national service. The teaching of Madwa Acharya are ever prevalent, said Swami Vishwapriya.
Swami Vidhyadisha said that Madwa Acharya has been a significant social reformer in Karnataka and the erstwhile Tulunadu. In order to immortalize the name of Madwa Acharya, it was proposed to erect Madwa Acharya’s monolithic sculpture will be erected out of a single boulder at the precinct of Kunjaru temple, said Swami Vidhyadisha.
The state urban and Udupi district-in-charge minister Vinayakumar Sorake, Kurkalu gram panchayat president Bhuvanesh Poojary, Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society general manager Jayakar Shetty Indrali were the chief guests present on the occasion.
The Vedic scholar Sagri Raghavendra Upadhyaya delivered the introductory address. Palimar mutt manager Balaram Bhat welcomed and proposed vote of thanks.
The single boulder has been brought from Devanahalli, Bangalore. The monolithic sculpture of Madwa Acharya will have a height of 32 feet. The approximate cost of has been ascertained to be Rs 1.50 crore.
