Mangalore, 10 Mar 2014: Bantwal Janardhan Poojary, the former union minister and now Congress candidate contesting the forthcoming general elections for the forthcoming Lok Sabha from Mangalore constituency, here on Monday March 10 launched verbal tirade against BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and persistent in demanding marital status the latter’s marital status.
Poojary challenged Modi to contest from Mangalore instead of quarreling with Murli Manohar Joshi over Varanasi seat.
Addressing media persons during a press meet held at Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DCC) office here on Monday March 10, a day after winning the Congress primary, Poojary said, ‘Narendra Modi has forgotten about his duty towards his wife. He wondered where she is. Whether they have cordial marital relations! He needs to answer these questions,’ said Poojary.
‘About 6 months ago, I posed the same questions to Modi - whether he was married or a divorcee. When he came to Nehru maidan in February 2014, he did not answer these questions,’ said Poojary.
‘Joshodaben is the wife of Modi whom he married her when she was 17 years of age. She is a retired school teacher now, who is deserted by Modi. What could be her plight...how she must be suffering now... When the media questioned her she never showed any anger or grudge towards Modi. She is like Sita,’ said Poojary.
When a media person queried about AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s ’love life’, Poojary termed it as a ’million dollar question’ and said, ‘Rahul Gandhi is unmarried. These days who is not in love? I have watched sandalwood actor Ramya be in love with different men on screen (in films). Even she is unmarried. I have no idea more than that,’ said Poojary.
When media persons queried whether his tirade against Modi was not a personal attack, Poojary replied, ‘Knowing anyone’s marital status is a legal act, and not a personal attack. When candidates contest they should reveal their marital status and assets to the election commissioner. In the parliament too it should be mentioned,’ said Poojary.
While commenting on the Congress primary in which he won, Poojary said, ‘It is not the victory of Janardhan Poojary but the victory of the party. Everyone in the party will work in unity. We should be good and cordial towards everyone and never hate anyone. I have never done wrong to anyone, though sometimes I have raised my voice,’ said Poojary.
On the controversial Yettinahole project, Poojary said, ‘Several foundation stones are laid in this country. Foundation stone does not matter. I will never allow this project to go on,’ assured Poojary.
The state minister Abayachandra Jain, Ibrahim Kodijal, former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty, T K Sudhir and others were present at the press meet.
