Mumbai: Christians across Metro observe Ash Wednesday, beginning of Lenten Season

Mumbai, 5 Mar 2014: The Lenten season began with Ash Wednesday by Christians across the metro on Wednesday March 5. The Christians flocked to churches for early morning Holy Mass here on Wednesday to begin forty-days of fasting and penance as the clergy marked ashes on the foreheads of faithful during the Holy Mass.
The Lenten season of forty-days that begins on Ash Wednesday March 5 concludes on Good Friday on April 18, wherein the faithful are expected to observe fasting, penance and meditate on the passions and sufferings of Jesus Christ.
The faithful in metro, Konkan coast from Mangalore to Goa arrived at the parishes since Wednesday early morning, to be bestowed by ashes by the clergy to commit themselves for Lenten season.
The Ash Wednesday was observed at Sacred Heart parish, Mahakali, here on March 5 early morning. Sacred Heart parish priest Fr Baptist Pais SVD and Fr Innocent Fernadnes, concelebrated the Holy Mass, assisted by Fr Evan Gomes Pernal, Fr John Singarayar, Bro Wilson Wilfred and Alwyn D’Souza in observing Ash Wednesday.
