Mangalore: Tahsildar Mohan Rao urges Students to Keep away from Drugs abuse

Mangalore, 19 Feb 2014: The peddling of drugs is increasing of late nearby education institutions, while the institution authorities and students are expected to on alert in this regard, urged Manalore taluk Tahsildar Mohan Rao.
Tahsildar Mohan Rao was speaking after inaugurating a seminar on alcohol and drug abuse that was jointly organizsed by Badriya Pre-University College, Karnataka state alcohol control Board, district information and broadcasting department at Badriya Pre-University College, here on Wednesday February 19.
The drug abuse has serious consequences on the society, while there are several people who are eager to exploit the situation to make more money. These people are indeed making all efforts to lure the students and youth to seclude them from the society, Mohan expressed his deep concern in this regard.
All those who are addicted to alcohol and drugs are disgraced in the society along with their families. The need of the hour is to create awareness on this among teenage students, for them to become responsible future citizens, urged Mohan Rao.
Udupi district health education officer Satyanarayan was the resource person, said that tobacco consumption, alcohol addiction and drug abuse are the evils of society. If one maintains good health without any addictions, he/she can lead healthy life till the old age. If the parents instill cultural upbringing, they will not be easy victims of any evils, said Satyanarayan.
Satyanarayn further said that there are several laws enacted to curb drug abuse, the sale of tobacco products are banned in the one-hundred-meters vicinity of education institutions. The entire family of drug/alcohol addict will drain their resources; suffer physically and mentally, said Satyanarayan.
The local corporator Abdul Latif said health is of great significance than anything in life. The students got to be well cultured to avoid such pitfalls, said corporator Latif.
Badriya Pre-University College principal Dr Ismail presided the programme.
The district information and broadcasting officer B A Khader Shah welcomed the gathering.
A handbook to educate the students on the evils of alcohol and drug abuse was distributed on the occasion.
