Qatar Konkani Speaking Community celebrates Noven Jevan

Doha, 10 September 2010: Konkani Speaking community (KSC) in Doha celebrated Noven Jevan and Cultural Program on the occasion of the Nativity Feast of our Holy Mother Mary at the Seraphic Hall in the premises of C atholic Church of our Lady of the Rosary, Doha Qatar, on Thursday 09 September 2010. The Fest Mass in Konkani was celebrated earlier on Wednesday evening.

 

The Cultural Program was set-off at 06.00 pm with a group hymn in Konkani by young children, followed by a group dance by little children and then a warm welcome by Reena Castelino who compeered the entire program. KSC President Mrs. Veena Rebimbus Pais accompanied to the stage the Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Peter – Parish Preist of Our Lady of the Rosary Church Doha, Guest of Honour Rev. Fr. Santhosh Rodrigues (Director – Family Life Service Centre, Diocese of Mangalore), Rev. Fr. Anand Castelino - Spiritual Director, Mr. Alfred & Mrs. Rita Sequeira – Pirgint, Mr. Joe Carvalho and Mr. Jerald Demello.

 

 

Fr. Anand Castelino praised the committee members and all the volunteers for their dedication who worked as a team in organizing this event. Fr. Peter spoke about the service and contribution of the Konkani Speaking Community to the entire parish who dedicatedly involve in all parish activities. Mr. Prakash thanked Fr. Santhosh who has been the preacher for the novenas and fest mass and was felicitated on this occasion and honoured with a memento by Fr. Peter.

 

Mrs. Riana Pinto thanked the Pirgint Mr. Alfred & Mrs. Rita Sequeira and they were felicitated on this occasion and honoured with a memento by Fr. Peter. Mr. Alfred thanked for giving him the opportunity for sponsoring the occasion. Fr. Santhosh raised a prayer to the lord of the harvest and the rose with nove was served to all. Fr. Santhosh spoke on the occasion and thanked for giving him the opportunity to spend some time with the Parishioners of Qatar.  

 

Mr. John D’sa read out the names of the winners in the singing (Konkani Religious hymns) competition on 2 categories – Solo and Group. Three age division for solo category (5 – 8 years, 11 – 10 years and 17 years & above). Two age division for group category (below 16 years and 17 years & above). All winners were given cups and certificates.

  

There was comedy skit lead by Mr. Vivian D’Souza which made every one laugh. There were varieties of entertainments such as song and dances by young children who performed well and entertained the gathering throughout the evening. Mrs. Reena Castelino conducted spot games, cracked jokes in between and kept the audience active throughout. All winners of the spot games were given fabulous prizes.

 

Mrs. Veena Rebimbus Pais proposed the vote of thanks. She thanked the guests, dignitaries, the audience and all the volunteers who worked hard to make this event successful. She also thanked Bellevision Media Network, Daijiworld Media Network,  Kemmannu.com and their representatives in Qatar for covering and publishing the Monthi Fest celebrations.

 

Towards the close Housie Housie was conducted by Mr. Vivian D’Souza with the assistance of Mrs. Wilma, which was followed by the ’Novem Jevan’ (new meal) which was completely vegetarian consisting of rice and verities of vegetarian dishes. The dining of the harvest meal in unision was indeed the essence of this celebration.
