Mangalore : Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony

Mangalore, Dec 18, 2013 : Father Muller College and School of Nursing organized Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking ceremony for the 56th batch of GNM students and 27th batch of B.Sc Nursing students on 17th December, 2013 at the Academy Hall, Father Muller Charitable Institutions.

 

Dr. Lavina M. Noronha, Director of Ave Maria Palliative Care was the Chief Guest for the function and Rev. Fr Patrick Rodrigues , Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions presided over the function. The dignitaries on the dais were Sr. Ilene, Chief Nursing Officer, father Muller Medical College Hospital, Sr. Winnifred, Principal, Father Muller College of Nursing, Ms. Jasmine Sarita Vas, Principal, Father Muller School of Nursing.

 

 

During the ceremony the students lit the lamp which signifies the ray of hope and love.They pledged to serve the ill, wherever and whenever needed, to treat the patients with love, respect and dignity. With this they walked to place the lamp in front of Florence Nightingale.

 

The Chief Guest while addressing the gathering said, “To be a nurse is truly a blessing. From a cradle to the grave you need a nurse. Without nurses medical institutions cannot run. It is not just about health but it is also heart. They should have the skill to understand even when the patients don’t speak.”

 

She further said, “Nursing is about tender, love and care. Nurses should heal, comfort, monitor, support, care effectively and efficiently. People will forget what you did, what you said but will not forget how you make them feel. The patients should be handled patiently. Do not take nursing as a profession but take it as a way of life “

 

She concluded with peace of advice for the students, “Never give up, nursing is a wonderful profession. Don’t forget self care.”

 

Fr. Patrick Rodrigues said, “Life of a patient is in your hands.  Nurse should have sacrificial love; they should be prepared to sacrifice. A sense of commitment towards their work will make them do better in their profession.”
