New Zealand: Agnelo Mascarenhas led Theater Group Presents Konkani Drama ‘Dubau’ in Auckland

Auckland / New Zealand, 18 Nov 2013: Agnelo Mascarenhas - producer, director and theatre artiste presented his eighth Konkani play, Dubau (Doubt) at Freeman’s Bay community hall here for the packed audiences recently.

 

The theatre group comprised Paul, Michael, Diogo, Iva, Nita, Arca, Isidore, Francis, Clara, Dennis and Edward.

 

A suspense filled drama kept everyone guessing and on their toes till the very end. Its theme revolved round children deserting their parents, forgetting the sacrifices and hardships they endured.

 

Mingel (Michael) and Dulcin (Arca) are blessed with a son, Frezer (Edward) after 10 years of marriage. In gratitude, Dulcin had promised God that if, blessed by a son, they would send him to priesthood. When Frezer decided his career, Dulcin insists he become a priest in fulfillment of the promise. However, the parish priest (Francis) during his visit convinced Dulcin, it is important to receive God’s call for priesthood.

 

 

Mingel sold his tree cutting business to educate Frezer as a Radio Officer who now works on a ship.  Freeda (Iva) gets to know Frezer on facebook and proposes her daughter (Juliet) in marriage. Frezer is completely swept off his feet and on his return to Goa, visits Freeda and Juliet even before meeting his parents. Frieda, a wealthy woman places plenty of demands on Frezer, including building a house on his parent’s property even at the cost of sending his parents to a rest home.

 

Kopro (Agnelo, producer, director and artiste) is the long time butler and care taker, trusted by Frieda. Kopro is well aware of everything that happens in the house.

 

Meantime Romeo (Paul) a well known musician was Juliet’s classmate and wished to marry her. Now in retaliation, he harasses her by visiting her at home, blank telephone calls creating a rift between Frezer and Juliet.

 

Rambo (Diogo) who has been an unsuccessful entrepreneur and his last attempt is a proposal business called ‘Shadi.com’. Again, unsuccessful, as he brings Juliet a proposal Dudpani (Isidore) who drinks only milk etc..  ha ha.

 

In the meantime, Rambo proudly boasts of his son working in USA who eventually dupes is father. He gets him to sign papers transferring the right of the property to the son posed as migration papers. This act sends Rambo to the same rest home Mingel and Dulcin are at.

 

At Frieda’s home, Frezer starts drinking because he doubts his wife from the various acts especially after he finds sunglasses at home. He eventually loses his job and begins to beat his wife and plans to commit suicide. He informs priest through a letter about his intentions. The priest visits Frieda’s house and trying to understand the confusion and meantime Romeo enters and confesses that he is the cause for all the doubt in Frezer’s mind. So priest forgives Romeo.

 

Muthu Swamy (Denis) guest appearance as a worker in the rest home was welcomed by all.

 

Overall all the artistes did a great job while all the audience enjoyed every moment of the show.
