Kundapur: Labour Officers Rescue 2 Child Labourers from Shops in City

Kundapur, 9 Oct 2013: The labour officers rescued 2 child labourers hailing from Rajastan and Uttar Pradesh (UP) respectively in a surprise raid at a commercial complex here on Wednesday October 9.
The child labourers has been identified as eleven-year-old Dipasso, a native of UP from Vasundara Traders located opposite Abharan Showroom, here and thirteen-year-old Praveen, a native of Rajasthan from Jayalaxmi Mobile Centre located in Venkataramana Arcade.
The labour officers instructed the shopkeepers to get the school certificates of child labourers in order to ascertain their ages, for the law to take its course, informed Kundapur labour inspector Jeevan Kumar.
Both the child labourers were handed over to the care of Spoorthidhama Rehabilitation Centre, informed Spoorthidhama chief functionary Dr Keshav Koteshwar.
The labour inspectors Ravi Kumar, Ramachandra and Jeevan Kumar, social activist Shikaripura Prema, Dr Keshav Koteshwar, Prabhakar Acharya were involved in this operation.
It’s a offence to employ children below the age of 14 years. Even the children who come on vacation are not allowed to sit in shops by the owners. Anyone uses children less than 14 years in any tasks will be liable to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 and face legal action. Despite the general awareness on this issue, child labourers are detected in Kundapur locality, said Dr Keshav Koteshwar. |
