Kundapur, 01 Oct 2013: Its about 2 months ago, a seventy-year-old woman abandoned her home over ill-will with her son and daughter-in-law amidst torrential rains at midnight and was rescued from the street. The Samaritans found her shivering without no energy and housed at Spoorthidhama in Beloor, near here.
Meanwhile, Spoorthidhama chief functionary Dr Keshav Koteshwar contacted her son and tried to reconcile both, but none of them heeded to his advices. However, in a twist to the incident, her son arrived after 2 months at Spoorthidhama on Sunday September 29. No sooner each other saw, both were in tears and on reconcile mood.
Dr Keshav advised both of them to be reconciled and live a normal life at home. The elderly woman in tears, said, ‘I wish to breathe my last, I will in my son’s home,’ said the sober woman. The son said, ‘I will abandon my mother, instead I care for her despite difficulties,’ said the son.
It seemed that both mother and son realized the worth of each other in the absence of 2 months and it was an awakening for both.
The woman is none other than Akkamma, a resident of Beejady village, near Koteshwar, here. She wanted to be away from her son, while her son realized his mistake to desert him.
As a coincidence, both mother and son reunited at the sideline of World Senior Citizens Day. It’s the duty of children to respect their elderly parents. If at all, your parents are living in old age homes, let them live with you, because elderly parents living in old age homes does not bring dignity to their cultured children.

I appreciate the efforts of Dr Keshav Koteshwar, chief functionary of Spoorthidhama in Beloor by counselling of mother and son and reuniting the family.Unfortunately in a similar case way back in 1991 which happened in Moodubelle , the Udupi catholic church and then preist/ Mangalore Bishop has not shown such efforts , instead in such a situation took the old parents to Home for the aged without even informing the children taking undue advantage of the aged parents entering into sale deed of the property thereby duping the children of their rights. Later the old age home did not even take care of the parents. Now mother who is 87years old is staying with son and daughter in law and taken care by the children. On "World Senior Citizens Day" I salute Dr Keshav and "Spoorthidhama in Beloor" for their work on this situation without any commercial sense. |
