Udupi, 16 Sep 2013: The proposed dumping yard by Saligrama town panchayat at Ultoor, at the limits of Kedoor gram panchayat is unscientific. Its inappropriate for the district administration to convert two-acre plot that is located closed to inhabited land as dumping yard. It makes no sense to the people who are residing in a locality by dumping the garbage that was generated by the people living at the limits of neighbouring town. The dumping yard will not be allowed at any cost, urged Spoortidhama Rehabilitation Centre chief functionary Dr Keshav Koteshwar.
Although, a twenty-five acre plot was converted as dump yard at Kandavar, for the garbage generated in the limits of Kundapur; the locals’ sufferings have not receded. If twenty-five acre plot is not suffice for Kundapur town council to dump their garbage, how come two-acre plot is suffice for the garbage generated in Saligrama town panchayat, added Dr Keshav.
Dr Keshav seeks explanation behind buying a two-acre plot from private individuals to convert as dump yard, when hundreds of acres of state-owned land is available in Karkada, at the limits of Saligrama town panchayat. The proposed dump yard in Ultoor, near here lies in close proximity to inhabited land. The district administration has been mindless in sidelining the peoples concern for clean air and pure drinking water, stressed Dr Keshav.
If at all the district administration determined to lay dumping yard in Ultoor; its not possible by just two-acre plot. Furthermore, there lies twelve-acre plot that belongs to forest department where it has developed cashew plantation in its vicinity. Besides, the state-owned four-acre plot which is located close by has been given on lease to private individuals where they are engaged in extracting laterite stones from quarries. If all these landmass is put together, it would be 18 acres and a at least 10 feet high compound wall is being built, it would be scientific to dump the garbage in the plot, emphasised Dr Keshav.
Dr Keshav cautioned in any circumstances the locals will not allow to set up garbage dump yard in two-acre plot, since its close to Spoorthidhama Rehabilitation Centre that houses orphaned and elderly.
