Fresh Fish Sellers’ Association submits appeal to the Home Minister-Dr. V.S. Acharya
Fresh Fish Sellers’ Association President-Baby H. Salian has handed over an appeal to the Home Minister of the Karnataka Government-Dr. V.S. Acharya requesting him no to give sanction to any new fresh fish outlets in the entire Udupi District as it would adversely affect the livelihood of over 10,000 fisher women directly and 30,000 women indirectly who are associate with selling of fresh fish in various markets in the townships and villages. The minister has promised the delegation that he would see to it that no new fresh fish outlets would be permitted in the Udupi District.

‘Kathekattuver’, a Tulu play was presented for the 10th time in the PPC Auditorium, Udupi recently. This social play written by the young journalist Vilas Kumar Nitte highlights the danger of terrorist activities to the unity of the country and tries to imbibe patriotism and unity among all Indians, especially the youth.

Does the Home Minister realize that he is interfering with the market dynamics, and succumbing to lobbying pressures of the fisher women? Would he agree to vegetable vendors and farmers demands as well to control their outlets as well as the acreage on which they are sown? Raise fish in your backyard ponds and wells in villages and towns in protest! |
