Kundapur: One need not under Emphasize role of English Medium; Shivanand Karant

Kundapur, 15 Apr 2013: One cannot label the parents are anti-Kannada, because they encourage their children to pursue English medium studies since the former are unprivileged owing to different circumstances in their early schooling, said renowned columnist and retired Professor K Shivanand Karant.
Shivanand Karant was speaking after inaugurating fourteenth annual day celebration of Gujjady School Alumni Association at Shivaraj Memorial open air theater, Gujjady, near here on Sunday April 14.
‘The need of the hour is to learn many languages along with Kannada,’ said retired Professor Shivanand. The United Kingdom that would be of the size of Kerala state has drawn enormous power with its native language English that is spoken by wide section of people worldwide, added Professor Shivanand.
The industrialist and alumnus Narayan T Poojary presided the programme.
Mumbai entrepreneur Gopal Putran Sulse, alumnus and Shimoga based Sigma Infotech promoter Vinod Kumar, school betterment Committee former president Ganesh Nayak, Bangalore based Honeywell engineer Prashant Kumar C H, Dr Arun Kumar were present at the dais.
The retired teacher H Bhaskar Shetty and Alumni Association founder president Valiyulla were felicitated at the same occasion.
The Alumni Association honorary president Harish Mesta was also present.
The Association president Prakash Poojary welcomed the gathering. Manjunat Billava read the message. The retired teacher Nagaraj Kodancha and Prakash N Mesta introduced the felicitated dignitaries. Sridar P Mesta read the names of winners. The secretary Krishna Gujjady proposed vote of thanks.
