Kundapur, 8 Apr 2013: The Udupi district BJP got a jolt after Halady Srinivas Shetty announced that he would contest the upcoming assembly elections as independent candidate in his home constituency. It’s an another blow, after BJP veterans Third finance Commission chairman A G Kodgi and Mani Gopal announced that they would not campaign for assembly elections favouring BJP. The state BJP has been facing the dearth of candidate after Halady Srinivas resigned from party and also to the post of MLA, over displeasure in not including in cabinet berth. The state BJP issued ticket to block BJP president Kishore Kumar without a choice, as it cannot find a suitable candidate.
A G Kodgi had a long range plan to get party ticket to his son Kiran Kodgi in order to contest in the upcoming elections, but that has not fulfilled. A G Kodgi had not contest the elections in the past despite of bright chances to get the party ticket. However, since Halady Srinivas and Kiran Kodgi are college mates and the latter expressed his desire to remain neutral along with his father A G Kodgi. Mani Gopal who was chairman of a state Authority for a short period also announced that he would remain neutral without participating in the campaign.
The majority of BJP newly-elected peoples’ representatives in the recently held civ polls also assured support to their mentor Halady Srinivas Shetty. The state BJP is likely to take action on all those BJP men who will support rebellion candidate Halady Srinivas Shetty. It’s clear that Kundapur taluk BJP has been weakened by the exit of Halady Srinivas.
