Moodubelle: Students’ Government inaugurated in St. Lawrence Composite PU College

Moodubelle, 03 July 2010: In order to provide practical education to the students in democratic process, elections to the student leaders were held in St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle in the month of June. As a logical advance of this process, the students’ parliament and council of ministers were inaugurated on Saturday, 3rd July 2010 at 12 noon in the PU College Hall. Prof. Felix Andrade, Principal of St. Mary’s Junior College, Shirva was the chief guest for the inaugural function.
Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence Composite PU College as the Governor of the students’ government administered the oath of office to the members of the students’ Council of Ministers.
The Council of Ministers of the PU College are: Prime Minister-Deeksha and Deputy PM-Ivan Lobo.
Ministers and Deputy Ministers in charge of various departments are: Sanitation-Roshan and Merwin, Sports-Vijay, Water Supply-Cavin, Library-Shamala, Parliamentary Affairs-Shruthi, Health-Levin, Culture-Shalika and Balaswami, Wall-paper-Kavitha, Jevitha and Ranjit.
The Council of Minister of the High School are: Prime Minister-Vinaya R. Nayak and Deputy PM-Karthik Bhat.
Ministers and Deputy Ministers in charge of different departments are: Parliamentary Affaairs-Jane Lobo, Internal Sanitation-Dikshit, Health-Anchan and Nitin karkera, Water Supply-Rahul Pai and Manjunatha, Library-Shilpa and Ashvita, Education-Shubha, Sports-Dikshit, Culture-Swathiand jeejal, Girls’ Welfare-Ishwarya Soni and Joyline.
Prof. Felix Andrade, the chief guest on the occasion, addressing the students and the members of the Council of Ministers explained the composition and functioning of the three branches of the government-legislature, executive and judiciary. He said that in any democratic process just talking is not enough there should be discussion so that solution to problems can be found out. By organising the parliament and constituting the Council of Ministers at the school and college level gives a clear understanding to the students about the functioning of the Indian parliamentary system of government. Further, Prof. Felix Andrade said that this exercise at the school-college level helps in developing leadership qualities among the students. He wished well to all the members of the council of ministers of both PU College and High School.
In his address as the Governor of the council of ministers, Fr. Paul Sequeira asked the student ministers to carry on their responsibilities and be an example to other students as leaders. Further he pointed out that with their cooperation and good work the working of the Composite PU College can improve and all the students will have the benefit of their good work. In this way the institution can achieve success in all fields and have a good name not only in having good results but also in other curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
Mamata Nayak compeered the entire programme. Vinaya R. Nayak welcomed the guests and Deeksha proposed the vote of thanks.
