Moodubelle, 07 Feb 2013: The foundation stone to the Mid-day meal kitchen was blessed and laid by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions on 31 January 2013. The staff members and students were present for the short function.

Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence Composite PU College welcomed   and narrated the purpose of the project. He said that it is a need based project. The Mid-day meal project was started by the Lions Club of Moodubelle in 2004. The facility has become quite old now as the cement sheets have become old  leaking during the rainy season. Even the space has been quite inadequate to accommodate the growing number of students who benefit from the Mid-day meal facility.

The  project was to start last year. However, due to shortage of funds the project had to be delayed. As the project has become the top priority, it’s construction has started hoping support from generous donors. With their support it is hoped that the project will be completed by June 2013 before the the school starts for the next academic year.

The construction work is being undertakne by Mr. Robert Noronha from Karkala who had built the church. The engineer is Mr. Srinivas Nayak who did the planning of the project. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs.15 lakhs.
Fr. Paul Sequeira has made an appeal to generous donors and well-wishers to come forward and contribute to the completion of the project.

Donors can send their contribution to the following bank and account number.

Addressed to:  Principal, St. Lawrence PU College, Moodubelle
Name of the Bank: Syndicate Bank, Moodubelle

Dear Monthu, it is very easy to throw stone while standing in the dark. What is your contribution to the church and the society/community. I am sure you are regular visitor to the church compound, have you ever tried to keep the compound clean especiaaly surroundings of the grotto. So first of fullfil your duties as a responsible member of the church and then point ur finger at others. If you doesnot know to appreciate the good works done by responsible people, better to keep quiet.

Monthu could you tell me do we have new built grotto now or not? Its been long time since I visit Moodubelle. I was shocked to know about it. I still remember during my childhood days I noticed many old aged people used to prey standing near the gate and one among them I always noticed was our Gustaab (Paper Gustu). If there is no grotto and If we prioritize the commercial building in its place than that is absolutely nonsense. I agree developments are required but not killing our moral values and ethics. One has to think about it.

No problem at all Arun Prakash. Belle parishioners are generous and god fearing.

Why again renovation? I do agree with Fernandes, Nelson and well wisher. We spend money and money right left and center without any concrete plan. Church Parish council and Finance committee seriously look into this matter. Remember it is very hard to earn and easy to spend. So we do not want to repeat our yesterdays mistake.
Mr.Fernandes, Dubai/Moodubelle Sun, February-10-2013, 7:53

Nelson well wisher very well said. these leaders are just planning to frame their names on the marble and nothing else. they are finding the ways to misuse publics hard earnings as there is no accountability. Public need to ask for the detailed report along with its long term viability and these leaders should be accountable for any wrong deeds. People need to wake up immediately to avoid another misuse of funds in unplanned projects.

Looking at the pictures it is understood that the building is in the bad condition. If I recollect my memories this Mid-day meal kitchen was renovated in less than 2 years for which college management organized drama ‘Oykla Yoga Bod’ to raise the fund for the renovation of this Kitchen in December 28th 2011. Its is notised in the past Lakhs of rupees wasted in Building, Demolishing and rebuilding the infrastructure specially in Belle College. The reason behind is nothing but poor planning, poor engineering lack of Knowledge and leadership. Here are the Two recet examples want to share with the readers, 1) we repaired and expanded play ground of Higher school and filled and sealed the well spending huge amount of money the same well collapsed over night and again management had to spend money to refill and cover it again. Secondly the newly built ground compound wall also collapsed and again rebuilt. Do we have any accountability? we donate money but got no clue how our money is utilized. No doubt Belleans are generous and they always donate their hard earned money but it also hurts when it is misused. At least now someone got to take a call and look into this matter more seriously
A Well Wisher and an Old Student, Moodubelle Sat, February-9-2013, 11:15

Such an important project could have been implemented long back. In Belle there is no shortage of donors or funds. Shortage is of leadership and vision. If there are sincere efforts to unite and encourage old students in a systematic manner, such small projects can be executed with ease. But sadly the leaders do not involve the old students and do not execute projects in professional manner. Instead of looking into 5 - 10 years future, we need to look beyond 20 - 30 years. Also asking for help at the last moment and without concerted efforts, will not get the desired results. Try to involve the old students and community, then see the magic. Schools in our neighborhood do well in terms of major projects and professionalism but sadly we are lagging behind everywhere. Can the leaders wake up now ???

I wish this project well. I pledge my monetary support. Further, I would recommend that the project engineer review if a factory/warehouse type would fit the purpose. Plenty of Innovative construction materials are now available in India. For convenience, I provide a link from Gujarat, http://www.optimacube.com/ongoing_pro.html
