Mangalore: SACAA Marks AGM on High Note

Mangalore, 21 Sept 2012: St. Aloysius College Alumni/ae Association (SACAA) held its Annual General Meeting on the College campus on September 14, 2012 on a high note - riding on its excellent record in the year gone by and opening the vista on optimistic future, centering on the prospect of achieving the dream of constructing a world-class swimming pool on the campus.
Speaking on the swimming pool project, Fr. Joseph Rodrigues, Rector of St. Aloysius and Patron of SACAA, said that the pool will have 8 lanes and a length of 50 metres involving a retaining wall, to ensure safety of downstream structures, costing upward Rs. 50 lakhs – with the whole project costing over Rs. 3 crores. He said that external and internal clearances for the project are in place. The University Grants commission would release Rs. one crore in installments linked to the time-bound progress of the project. SACAA has pledged to support the project with a multi-pronged fund collection drive. Fr. Rodrigues lauded the generous contribution and services of SACAA for the development projects on the campus. In this context, he noted the active involvement of Fr. Francis Almeida, Vice Principal of the college and newly inducted Deputy Director of SACAA.

 


Addressing the AGM, Fr. Swebert D’Silva, Principal of the college and Director of SACAA, compare the College to a vehicle which runs on four wheels comprising management , staff, students and alumni. He noted that in the case of St. Aloysius, all the wheels have worked in unison and harmony, and specially praised SACAA for helping the college to run on high gear. He said that the name of the college depends on the status of its alumni and noted that they are the brand ambassadors of the college helping it to function with vibrancy with lot of student-centric activities. He appealed to the alumni to get involved with the students with their knowledge and guidance. He noted that the college was moving in the high-end direction, having presently 16 post-graduate courses with two more on the anvil.


Mr. Arthur D’Souza, President, welcomed and conducted the proceedings. Mr. Naveen Mascharenas, Hon. Secretary, presented the annual report. Mr. Felix F. D’Silva, Treasurer, highlighted the annual accounts, pointing out the positive bottom-line for the year.


New Executive  Committee

The election for the new Executive Committee of SACAA was scheduled after the AGM, with Dr. Ivan Pinto, Head of Chemistry Department as Election Commissioner. The office bearers, elected unopposed, are: President: Mr. Michael D’Souza; Vice-President: Dr. Richard Gonsalves; Hon. Secretary: Mr. John B. Monteiro; Jt. Hon Secretary: Mr. Ravindranath K; and Hon. Treasurer: Naveen Mascharenas. Members: Mr. Arthur D’Souza, Mr. Felix F. D’Silva, Mr. Edmund Frank, Mr. M. G. Mohan and Mr. Santosh Kumar Kadri
