Moodubelle: Renovated Kattingeri Lake inaugurated and Vanamahotsava observed

Moodubelle, 02 Sep 2012: A joint programme of inauguration of the renovated Kattingeri Lake, release of  juvenile fish in the lake, distribution of plants, Vanamahotsava and distribution of grass seeds was organized near  the Kattingeri Lake on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 10.30 am. This programme was jointly organized by the NSS Unit of St. Lawrence Degree College, Moodubelle, Lions Club of Moodubelle, Kattingeri  Lake Renovation  Committee and Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Gramabhivruddhi Yojane, Kattingeri.

 

Lalaji R. Mendon along with Katapadi Shankar Poojary performed the Bhagina  to the Lake and also released the juvenile fish such as  Katla and Common Corp into the lake.

 

Lalaji R. Mendon formally inaugurated the Renovated Lake by unveiled the granite plank.  Devdas Hebbar in his welcome and introductory address said that the lake was renovated  at a cost of Rs.31 lacs under the Project of Renovation of State’s Lakes and Ponds, a 100 Crores of rupees plan  initiated by the former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and continued by his successors. The renovated lake will hold water in the area of 5.78 acres and the water will be utilized for 75 acres of land. He also said that trees would be planted around the lake to beautify the surroundings.

 

 

Narrating a piece of history, Devdas Hebbar said that being close to the house, the world renowned artist and painter, K.K. Hebbar, whose birth centenary was observed last year used to use the mud from the lake to mould images. Pointing out to the rock at the edge of the lake, Devdas said that K.K. Hebbar used to draw pictures on the surface of that rock in his childhood.
Lalaji R. Mendon distributed plants to NSS students and the villagers. He also distributed grass seeds to the villagers. In his message, Lalaji R. Mendon appreciated t he work done by the  Kattingeri Lake Renovation Committee and said that the lake will have enough water to irrigate the neighbouring fields and land.

 

The Programme was attended by Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza,  Gilbert Braganza, President of the Lions Club of Moodubelle, members of the Belle Grama Panchayat and a number of villagers from Belle and Kattingeri.

 

The NSS students of St. Lawrence College, Moodubelle observed Vanamahotsava by planting saplings on the bank of the Kattingeri Lake. They were accompanied by Commodore Jerome Castelino, Dean of the college, Dr. Eugene D’Souza, Principal and Miss Kusuma Makwan, NSS Programme Officer.
