Mangalore: MCC Bank concludes centenary celebration with grand valedictory function

Mangalore, 07 May 2012: The Mangalore Catholic Co-operative (MCC) Bank concluded its centenary celebrations with a grand valedictory function at the Milagres College grounds on Sunday, 8 May 2012 starting from 5.30 pm. The valedictory function was presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore. Veeerappa Moily, Union Minister for Corporate Affairs was the chief guest at the function.
The other dignitaries who attended the centenary function included: B Ramanath Rai (MLA), Ronald Colaco, Ivan Fernandes, President of KE Global, Dubai, James Mendonca, Mangalore Konkans President, Dubai (UAE), R. Palangappa, Deputy Registrar of Co-op Societies, DK, Dr Edward Nazareth and MCC Bank chairman Melwyn D’Cunha were present on the dais.
Prior to the Centenary Valedictory Function, thanksgiving Mass was offered at 4 pm at Our Lady of Miracles Church, Mangalore.
The valedictory function began with a procession in which managers of different branches of the MCC Bank participated. The guests and gathering were welcomed by Melwyn D’Cunha. The history of the origin and development of the bank was narrated by Dr Edward Nazareth. Ronald Colaco released the documentary on the history of the MCC Bank.
The chief guest, Veerappa Moily praised the contribution of the MCC Bank and said that the bank is the largest urban cooperative bank in the twin district of DK and Udupi.
Speaking at this occasion, Ronald Colaco congratulated the management of the MCC Bank for taking it to great heights during the past century and specially appreciated the rapid growth of the bank during the last four years. Appreciating the growth of the bank, Ronald Colaco announced a contribution of Rupees ten lakhs to the bank.
Other dignitaries on the dais also spoke on this occasion and congratulated the MCC Bank for achieving the milestone of Century in banking sector.
In his presidential address, Bishop Dr. Aloysius D’Souza made an appeal to the people to patronize the MCC Bank. He praised the functioning of the MCC Bank’s management and employees. He also said that they should keep pace with the changing times while achieving growth.
He also stressed the need to be philanthropic and help in building the society, and said that he keeps aside a certain amount of money for donating to the needy as it gives him peace of mind and blessings from god.
On this occasion, former chairmen of MCC Bank Valentine D’Silva and M P Norohna were felicitated. Advocate Chevalier Clarence Pais was also honoured during the function. A book on the history of the Bank, published by Raymond D’Cunha of Pingara was released on the occasion.
Two needy persons were given cheques amounting to Rs. 25,000.The function was compeered by Mallika Shetty and the vote of thanks was proposed by Joseph Quadros.
Following the stage function, a musical programme presented by Joel Periera and his team entertained the gathering that marked the culmination of the centenary celebrations of the MCC Bank.
