Mangalore, 27 January 2012: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) led by Ivan D’Souza, Secretary of the organization demanded strong action against Dr. Prabhakar Bhat for his anti minority remarks at Hindu Samajotsava organised at Uppinangady recently. The protest rally was held on Friday, 27 January 2012 at 10.30 am in front of the District Commissioner’s office.
In its appeal given to the Governor of Karnataka through the Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, received on his behalf by a designated Police Officer, the KPCC maintained that in spite of registering a case against the derogatory speech against the minorities, Dr. Prabhakar is still free. KPCC demanded his arrest according to law and exemplary punishment so that such incidents are repeated.
The KPCC pointed out that even earlier such incidents have taken place in different places of Dakshina Kannada in an attempt to disturb the communal harmony. There is an urgent need to put a stop to such malicious attempts by fundamentalists to create an atmosphere of disharmony among different communities.
