Mangalore: Vintage and Classic Car Carnival-2012 blazes the trail through the city

Mangalore, 27 January 2012: On the occasion of the 63rd Republic Day celebration, a vintage and classic car carnival and later race was organised by the Mangalore Motor Sports Association at the Central Maidan, Mangalore on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 10 am.
The signal for the vintage car rally was given by Krishna Palemar-in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada along with Nagaraj Shetty, president of Coastal Development Authority.
More than 60 vehicles of different make and vintage took part in the rally and race. Out of these, 35 were two-wheelers of different brands; 26 were four wheelers of vintage category starting from 1932 models to 1970 models. Most of the cars have been well-maintained by their owners. Many of them were four wheel drive jeeps.
The rally began at 10.30 am from the central Maidan. The route of the rally included Hampankatta, Palnir Road, Kankanady Junction, Balmatta-Jyothi Circle, onwards to PVS Circle, Lalbagh and ended at Sultan Battery Water Sports Adventure Centre.
A large number of spectators cheered the rallying cars and their drivers. After the end of the rally, all the participants were issued certificates f participation. The Vintage and Classic Car Carnival-2012 was sponsored by UAE-Exchange and promoted by the Karnataka Tourism Department.
