Padubidri: Janajagrati Samiti to conduct protest rally

Padubidri, 14 December 2011: Protesting the 2nd phase of the project of I.S.P.R.L. crude oil storage facility, the Janajagrati Samiti will be conducting a huge rally on 19th December with the cooperation of the villagers in Udupi, said Kalattur Janajagrati Samiti Hon. President Gurme Suresh Shetty Bellary in a press conference.
The rally will start at Kaup Majoor circle by vehicles, will go to Udupi and there on the main streets silent procession will be conducted and then will go to Deputy Commissioner’s Office and through Deputy Commissioner a petition will be submitted to the Chief Minister to discard this expansion project. In this rally more than 5,000 people will be participating, he said.
The crude oil storage facility project is already in progress in 200 acre land in Padoor and is in the completion stage. People of this area are already suffering from various problems related to this project. But still the survey for more land acquisition is going on secretly for the 2nd phase. From the additional 700 acre land acquisition about 150 to 200 families will be without land and facilities, said Suresh Shetty.
In the press conference Samiti coordinator Nithyananda R. Shetty, Lawrence Fernandes, Payyaru Shivarama Shetty, Divakara D. Shetty, Kishor Kumar Gurme, Ganesh Shetty Payyaru, Praveen Kumar Gurme, Forme Jilla Panchayath Member Gladis Almeida and Jilla Panchayath Member Arun Shetty Padoor were present.

This is really very sad. Without any information to the Gram Panchayath or to the people of the area ISPRL is secretly conducting the survey. And the funny thing is, still the Taluk office is issuing license to build new houses or any other construction. Even the lawyers of this are are in shock. All people of the surrounding area must support the people of Kalathur Padur, otherwise this project s third phase will extend to other areas. |
