Shirva: Women enjoy fun and games in “Gobbuda Pantholu”

Shirva, 13 December 2011: If we preserve the Tulu language and the Tule cultures, then only our Tulunadu can remain and to preserve this and to keep good relationship within the families women can play a key role, said Mangalore Women’s Association President Vijayalakshmi B.Shetty. She was speaking upon inaugurating the women’s fun and games the rural sports competition at Shirva Nyarma Hosamane Varvadi Radhamma Heggadthi Chavadi on Sunday. She inaugurated the function in a traditional way by pouring the paddy rice from the gerase to kalasha.
Speaking further she said that, the childhood games in the villages such as chennemane, kage-gili, soppata, kallata and handicrafts such as hidisoodi, madalu, rope from paddy plants and the activities at home full of people are memorable and are still fresh in mind. In the olden days when women were meeting during any get together they used to discuss on sari’s, gold and village rumors but now the women involve themselves in their associations and talk about savings, programs and responsibilities.
Tulukoota Udupi President Dr. Bhaskarananda Kumar presided over the program and said that in the land where Tulu language was born, now the pride of the language is diminishing, but the Tulu community in Mumbai the pride for Tulu language can be seen, he said. The games of the olden days beings joy and the traditional food keeps good health,he said. Speaking on the occasion Arun D’Souza briefed on the broadness of the mother power.

Shetty, Babitha Aras, Kumuda V. Poojary, Shobha V. Hegde, Jayashree Shetty conducted various games. Tulu Koota Secretary U.J. Devadiga proposed vote of thanks.
Tulu Koota Vice President U. Damodhar, Coordinator Gangadhar Kidiyoor, Treasurer Chaitanya, V. Subbayya of Varvadi family, Devdas Hegde, M.S. College Principal Sudhakar Marla, Mohan Kotyan and Sachidananda Hegde were present on the occasion. More than 200 women participated in the various fun filled competitions.
