Udupi: On Sunday, February 2, 2025, the Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte-Kallianpur, witnessed a profound celebration as the community gathered to mark three significant events:

1. The Feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple

2. The Rededication of Religious to Their Mission

3. A Felicitation for Newly Ordained Priest, Rev. Fr. Stephen D’Souza

The Eucharistic celebration commenced at 8:00 AM with a solemn ceremony at the church entrance, commemorating the sacred moment when Mother Mary and St. Joseph presented the infant Jesus at the temple in Jerusalem, 40 days after His birth. This beautiful tradition was reenacted with devotion, reminding the faithful of the fulfillment of divine law and the dedication of Jesus to God’s mission.

Following this, a procession was held where SRA sisters carried lighted lamps to the holy altar, symbolizing their unwavering dedication, service, and humility. The Mass was graced by the presence of Rev. Dr. Roque D’Souza, the Vicar, who, in his homily, reflected on the significance of the day. He vividly narrated the biblical event of Simeon and Anna, who, upon seeing the child Jesus, recognized Him as the salvation of humankind.

The celebration also became an occasion to acknowledge the dedicated service of the SRA Convent superior and sisters. Rev. Dr. Roque D’Souza commended their tireless contributions to the Church, hospital, and school, recognizing them as beacons of faith and service in the community.

Adding to the joy of the day was marked by the felicitation of Rev. Fr. Stephen D’Souza, a beloved son of the soil, who was ordained on September 21, 2024. Mrs. Priya Furtado introduced him to the gathering, highlighting his journey to priesthood. To honor his achievement, Rev. Dr. Roque D’Souza, alongside co-celebrant Rev. Fr. Oliver Nazareth and Mr. Luke D’Souza, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, presented him with a traditional shawl, garland, bouquet, fruit basket, and a memento as tokens of love and appreciation from the parish.

In his heartfelt response, Fr. Stephen D’Souza expressed his deep gratitude to the clergy and parishioners for their love and support. He humbly requested their prayers as he embarked on his pastoral journey, in Belgium, Europe assuring them of his prayers in return.

This memorable celebration reflected the unity, faith, and devotion of the Mount Rosary Church community, reinforcing their commitment to Christ’s mission. The day concluded with a renewed spirit of gratitude and joy, leaving an indelible mark in the hearts of all who participated.

May the light of Christ continue to shine through the dedicated service of His chosen ones!
