Free Eye Check-up Drive and St. Mother Teresa Day Observed by Lions Club, Moodubelle

Udupi/M’Belle, 22 Sept 2024: The Lions Club, Moodubelle conducted the Free Eye Check-up Camp and observed St. Mother Teresa Day at the Lions Seva Bhavan on Sunday, 22 September 2024. 

 

The Free Eye Check-up Camp commenced at 10.00 am with a brief inaugural programme presided over by Ln. Ivan Menezes-President of the Lions Club, Moodubelle. Other dignitaries on the dais included Dr. Anusha from Prasad Netralaya, Udupi, Ln. Devadas Hebbar-Secretary, Ln. Rajendra Shetty-Treasurer and Leo Shaina Menezes-President of the Leo Club.

 

Following the prayer by Leo Shaina Menezes and Ln. Sushma Menezes, Ln. Ivan Menezes welcomed the gathering. 

 

The Free Eye Check-up Camp was officially inaugurated by Dr. Anusha and other office bearers of the Lions Club by lighting the lamp.

 

In her message, Dr. Anusha explained the participants in the camp how they should take care of the health of their eyes by regular check-up and looking out for signs that may cause damage to the eyes. She also made the participants aware of the symptoms of glaucoma and how it can be treated. 

 

Dr. Anusha was felicitated on this occasion for leading the team that conducted the Free Eye Check-up Camp.

Following the formal inauguration of the Free Eye Check-up Camp, St. Mother Teresa Day was observed by offering flower petals to the portrait of St. Mother Teresa by Ln. Fr. George D’Souza, Lion Member and Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle, followed by Ln. Ivan Menezes and Ln. Pritish D’Sa who is also the Vice President of the Moodubelle Parish Pastoral Council and other office bearers of the Lions Club, Moodubelle.

 

The Free Eye Check-up camp conducted by the medical staff from Prasad Netralaya, Udupi led by Dr. Anusha was attended by 140 persons. Out of these following the check-up 30 persons were advised by Dr. Anusha to undergo free cataract operation in the Prasad Netralaya, Udupi. 32 persons were advised to have spectacles a concessional rate.

 

One of the unique feature of this year’s Free Eye Check-up Camp was that 15 persons pledged donation of their eyes after their death. Eye Donation Certificates were distributed by Dr.  Anusha to the volunteers. The eye donors included Ln. Ivan Menezes, his wife Ln. Sushma Menezes and his daughter Leo Shaina Menezes. Besides, immediate past president Ln. Joseph Martis and his wife Ln. Jacinta Martis, immediate past secretary Ln. Valerian Noronha and his wife Ln. Lavina Barboza, Ln. Joel D’Sa and his wife and others pledged the donation of their eyes.
