Student achievers in the Academic Year 2023-24 honoured in NJC Barkur

Udupi, 15 June 2024: Budding talents and achievers in the academic year 2023-24 recognized and awarded cash and other endowment prizes and Certificates in NJC Barkur.
Couple of weeks ago, ‘National Junior College’ reopened with a bang to herald the commencement of new academic year and the Institution welcomed hundreds of new faces in its campus both to High School and PU studies. During the just held orientation and introductory classes, the Principal and teachers proudly quoted the previous year’s best results, it recorded i.e. 96. 5% in PU & 100% in SSLC to the new comers… and today the same was authenticated, in the presence of these achievers receiving prizes, trophies and certificates.
It was truly a wonderful atmosphere as the ‘National Auditorium’ full to its capacity at 2.00 p.m on Friday, 14th June, 2024.
Once the prayer hymn was sung by Class VIII students to invoke Almighty Lords blessings, the glittering event unfolded with special guests and dignitaries occupying the centre stage. Mrs Janet Lewis, proud Alumna of NJC and representing Late U S Nayak Memorial Charitable Trust, generous sponsors of Uniforms and scholarships, Mr Gururaj Ganiga, the Treasurer of famed Shri Venu Gopala Krishna Temple, who were the generous sponsors of mid day meal for all male students of the College, over the years. Mr B Seetharama Shetty, former principal and the Vice President, Mr Ashok Kumar Shetty the Secretary of BES and Mr Shedikodlu Vittal Shetty, Vice Chairman of the ‘Barkur Educational Society, Barkur’, gracefully presided over the colourful function.
Mr U Kottraswamy the Principal of NJC extended a warm and cordial welcome to all gathered and gave a glimpse of the day’s schedule of the programme. Recognising, awarding prizes and Certificates to the outstanding Students, Distribution of Cash endowment prizes and Scholarships to the promising students of current academic year and honouring the team of Lecturers and Teachers who strived hard to register the spectacular results.
He beautifully introduced two great illustrious personalities of yester years – Sri Sri Purushottamanandaji, well respected seer of Ramakrishna Mutt, Bangalore, a proud old student of NJC in 60’s & Founder Head Master of NHSS since its inception in 1946 till 1971 Shri PN Bhoja Rao to the audience and as a memorial to these great men every year this Prathibha Puraskara is held on a grand scale. Once the traditional lamp lighted the dignitaries on the dais offered floral tributes to great souls whose memories and contribution always remained perpetual inspiration to the National Educational Institutions.
The names of the Winners of various proficiency prizes and cash endowments in SSLC 2023-24 were announced by the Sr Science Teacher Mrs Jyoty Shetty, who too now Treasurer of NHSS Old Students Association. It was a thrilling experience not only to the achievers but the entire School rejoiced with them as they received unique honours and recognitions from the dignitaries on the dais.
Prof P. Archibald Furtado, the Admn Co-ordinator of National Group of Educational institutions congratulated all the winners and achievers, fondly remembered donors of past and their families for creating endowments, lauded the sacrificial role of Principal, HM and all staff instrumental to bring extra ordinary results – 96.5% in PU and 100% in SSLC and called for the repeated and better performance by the present students in this academic year.
The list of PU achievers in all the three streams were presented by Mrs Vijaya Laxmi, Lecturer in Commerce and the proud achievers were extremely happy to receive the prizes.
Mr Ashok Kumar Shetty, the Secretary of the BES in his crispy and to the point address, appreciated the hard work of both the students and teachers, for their spectacular show in the previous year and it’s time to retain its reputation with dedication and determination. It’s a proud moment to all of stake holders – the students, parents, teachers and management as well, he reiterated. He also cautioned not to be carried away with success but continue hard work which always results in better returns….
Former Principal Mr B Seetarama Shetty shared few nostalgic moments with the present generation and reassured that management always committed to provide best atmosphere for quality learning in National Campus, as it was, it is and it will be….
On this special occasion Chief Guest Mr Gururaj Ganiga was honoured with the draping of traditional shawl and memento for the Temple authorities for their yeomen service by providing mid day meal to all male students of our College since many years and in his reply to the honours reassured the best possible from the historical Shri Venu Gopala Krishna temple authorities for the cause of education and students in NJC.
Mrs Janet DSouza who was the Chief Guest of this grand event too was honoured with traditional shawl and memento by the dignitaries as the U S Nayak Memorial Charitable Trust not only borne the cost of Uniforms to all High School students but also awarding cash scholarships to poor and deserving students for their higher studies. In her short message wished all the very best to all the students and assured something still better will be done in future for her Alma Mater.
Shri S. Vittal Shetty in his presidential address congratulated all concerned the students and teachers and fondly remembered all…. especially Sri Sri Purushottama nandaji & HM PN Bhoja Rao who are best examples for quality teaching and dedication for their respective professions and we at National Junior College must give them back by utilising the best facilities and excelling in both class room and in the playgrounds in the forthcoming years.
Well organised programme nicely presented by Mr Maruti, Kannada teacher with selected quotes and sayings and Mrs Hemavathy PS, Headmistress of the High School proposed vote of thanks to all who made it a memorable and enjoyable one to all and sundries. HM and all Teachers from the National Primary, High School and PU College, Members of the Management and few parents too attended the programme.
All the students gathered were served with sweets on this occasion.
