Barkur, 13 Dec 2023: As the native Church at Barkur dedicated to St Peter the Apostle is gearing up for the three days celebration of Annual Feast i.e. on Sunday, 17th December – Confraternity Sunday, on Tuesday 19th Vespers and on Wednesday, 20th the Parish Feast in honour of Patron and to thank Almighty Lord for bountiful blessings showered on the parish community throughout the year, and at distant Belthangadi, at the St Therese High School an unique programme has been organised, on Sunday 17th December at 4.30 pm.
Celebrating the Grace of Greccio: 800 years of Tradition and the release of the Birth Centenary Calendars of ‘Servant of God Amcho Padriab Fr Alfred Roche OFM Cap’. by Secular Franciscan Order, Belthangadi region.
Native of Barkur, born in Moodahadu Kudru on 3rd April, 1924 as the fifth child of devout Sacristan Isaac Roche and Carmine Monthiro. Ordained priest in Capuchin order on 11th April, 1949. He served in various places and parishes of the then Diocese of Mangalore, Karvar etc and the simple and humble acts of charity, goodwill and care earned him the reputation of Common peoples Priest.
He was living a life of simplicity when alive and a ray of hope for hopeless and helpless. Those received favours and solace recall their experiences and after his death on 31st December, 1996, even today, many miracles are taking place around the world as the living witness Christ living midst of us.
Hundreds paying visits to his tomb at Holy Family Church, Brahmmavar and his birthplace in Barkur – Moodahadu island and soon he will be elevated to be a Saint of Catholic Church.
