Lions Club Moodubelle organizes Free Eye Checkup Camp in St. Lawrence Educational Institutions

Udupi/M’Belle, 22 Sep 2023: The Lions Club of Moodubelle along with the Prasad Netralaya, Udupi organized Free Eye Checkup Camp for the students of St. Lawrence Group of Educational Institutions on Friday, 22 September in St. Lawrence PU College Hall from 10 am to 4pm. In this camp 608 students had their eyes checked out of which 88 students were advised to take up further tests and treatment.
A brief stage programme to inaugurate the Free Eye Checkup Camp was presided over by Ln. Joseph Martis - President of the Lions Club of Moodubelle. Other dignitaries on the dais included Ln. Fr. George D’Souza - Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions who was the chief guest, Ln. Ivan D’Almeida - Zonal Chairman, Dr. Krishnakant from Prasad Netralaya, Udupi, Mrs. Sunitha Kamath - Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, Sr. Irene Viegas-Headmistress of the Church Aided Higher Primary School, Ln. Valerian Noronha -Secretary, Ln. Rajendra Shetty - Treasurer and Leo Ethan Martis - President of the Leo Club, Moodubelle.
Following the prayer by the students, Ln. Joseph Martis narrated the background of organizing the Free Eye Checkup Camp for the students and welcomed the guests and the gathering.
Ln. Fr. George D’Souza along with other dignitaries on the dais formally inaugurated the Free Eye Checkup Camp for the students by lighting the lamp.
On this occasion a Blood Pressure monitoring machine donated by the Lions Club, Moodubelle was handed over by Ln. Fr. George D’Souza and Ln. Joseph Martis to Mrs. Ashwini of the Community Health Centre Pernankila to be used at the Health Sub-centre at Moodubelle.
In his message, Ln. Fr. George D’Souza said that sight is the gift of God to all creatures. God has granted sight to all human beings. It is important that everyone should preserve his or her own sight and help others also to preserve the same. Lions Club of Moodubelle of which he is one of the proud members has been conducting Free Eye Checkup Camps every year for the benefit of the village community. He also said that it is not enough to have sight. It is very important that everyone should have a vision for himself or herself and to the society in order to make progress and build a strong nation. He asked for God’s blessings on the Free Eye Checkup Camp and wished well.
The staff members of the Prasad Netralaya that has come to conduct the Free Eye Checkup Camp were felicitated by offering them flowers.
In his brief address, Dr. Krishnakant explained that it is very important for children to have their eyes checked at the young age so that any defect in the sight can be identified and accordingly corrective steps can be taken in time.
Ln. Valerian Noronha proposed the vote of thanks.
Ln. Devadas Hebbar who coordinated the entire Free Eye Checkup Camp compered the programme.
