Udupi: Commodore Jerome Castelino Takes Charge of Lions Club, Moodubelle in the Silver Jubilee Year

Udupi/M’Belle, 20 Jun 2022: Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino (VSM), the Charter President of the Lions Club, Moodubelle took charge of the same club as the President in its Silver Jubilee Year. Similarly, Ln. Devdas Hebbar, the Charter Secretary of the club took charge as the new Secretary of the same club. Perhaps this is the unique instance in the history of the International Lions Club Movement when the Charter President and Charter Secretary becoming the President and Secretary 25 years after the foundation of that club. Both Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino and Ln. Devdas Hebbar along with Ln. Elias Lobo were installed as the President, Secretary and Treasurer respectively on Sunday, 19 June 2022 at the Installation Ceremony held in the Lions Seva Bhavan, Moodubelle. Ln. Dr. Nery Cornelio-First Vice District Governor (VDG) was the installation officer.

 

Prior to the installation ceremony, Ln. Dr. Nery Cornelio arrived at the Lions Seva Bhavan at 6 pm. Thereafter, members of the Lions Club, Moodubelle along with Ln. Dr. Nery Cornelio proceeded to Edmeru where the house of Mrs. Eliza Gomes renovated by the Lions Club, Moodubelle under the leadership of President Ln. Valerian Noronha under the ‘Home for the Homeless’ Project was inaugurated.

 

 

On returning to the Lions Seva Bhavan, the Installation Programme commenced at 7 pm. The outgoing President Ln. Valerian Noronha presided over the programme. Other dignitaries on the dais included Ln. Dr. Nery Cornelio-Chief Guest and Installation Officer, Ln. Elias D’Souza, Region Chairman, Ln. Anil George D’Souza-Zone Chairman, Ln. Joseph Martis-Secretary, Ln. Elias Lobo-Treasurer and Leo Joyce Fernandes.

 

Following the welcome address by Ln. Valerian Noronha, Ln. Dr. Eugene D’Souza introduced the chief guest of the programme, Ln. Dr. Nery Cornelio.

 

In his speech prior to the installation of the new office bearers, Ln. Dr. Nery Cornelio appreciated the service activities that were conducted by the Lions Club, Moodubelle under the able leadership of Ln. Valerian Noronha especially the project of ‘Home For the Homeless’ and other activities. He also highlighted the importance of the Lions Club International movement which had been doing good work throughout the world. He emphasized on the quality of members and their dedication so that the Lions Clubs can survive in serve the society.

 

Ln. Dr. Nery Cornelio installed the various office bearers for the Lionistic Year 2022-23 including the President Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino, Secretary Ln. Devdas Hebbar and Treasurer Ln. Elias Lobo. He also installed the Leo Club office bearers-Leo Ethan Martis as President, Leo Dheeraj Hebbar as Secretary, Leo Disha Pai as Treasurer and Leo Loy Fernandes as the Vice President.

 

Following the Installation ceremony, the Installation Officer Ln. Dr. Nery Cornelio handed over the gavel and the gong to Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino and the outgoing president Ln. Valerian Noronha and Secretary Ln. Joseph Martis handed over their charge to the newly installed President Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino and Ln. Devdas Hebbar respectively.

 

The outgoing Leo President Joyce Fernandes handed over the charge to the new Leo President Ethan Martis by offering a pin to the latter.

 

 

In his farewell speech, Ln. Valerian Noronha thanked all the members of the Lions Club, Moodubelle and donors and sponsors who had supported the Lions Club, Moodubelle in carrying out the various service activities especially the ‘Home for the Homeless’ project. Under his presidentship he succeeded in renovating completely three homes of the needy families. He also honored the Secretary Ln. Joseph Martis, Treasurer Ln. Elias Lobo and also the members of the Board of Directors by offering them gifts.

 

As 19 June happened to be the ‘Father’s Day’ and the birthday of Commodore Jerome Castelino, two cakes were cut on this occasion to celebrate both the father’s Day and the Birthday of Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino.

 

In his acceptance speech, Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino expressed happiness on being installed as the president of the Lions Club, Moodubelle for the second time, first time as the Charter President and  second time after 25 years in the Silver Jubilee Year. He sought the support from all the members not only of the Lions Club, Moodubelle but also from other clubs from Region V of District 317C in celebrating the Silver Jubilee of the Club.

 

Zone Chairman of Zone I, Ln. Anil George D’Souza and Region Chairman of Region V, Ln. Elias D’Souza delivered the felicitation messages.

 

 

On this occasion Ln. Sucharitha Shetty, former Zilla Panchayat Presdient of Dakshina Kannada District and President of the Dakshina Kananda District Milk Producers Association who is member of Mundkur-Kadandale Lions Club was felciitated by the dignitaries on the dais.

 

The Lions Club, Moodubelle members honoured the outgoing President Ln. Valerian Noronha along with his wife Ln. Lavina Noronha for his leadership in the service activities of the club.

 

Leo Joy Fernandes, who was the District Leo President last year and Multiple Treasurer this year was honoured on this occasion.

 

Ln. Devdas Hebbar proposed the vote of thanks and Leo Joy Fernandes anchored the entire programme.
