Stree Sanghattan Moodubelle Unit Celebrates International Women’s Day

Udupi/M’Belle, 13 Mar 2022: The Nisarga Stree Sanghattan, Women’s Commission and Health Commission Units of St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle jointly organized International Women’s Day on Sunday, 13 March 2022 at 3.30 pm in St. Lawrence Community Hall.
The Women’s Day Celebration was presided over by Fr. George D’Souza-Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church. Other dignitaries on the dais included Fr. Cyril Lobo-Assistant Parish Priest, Dr. Judith Lobo-Resource Person, Sr. Irene Viegas-Animator of Stree Sanghattan, Gerald Fernandes-Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Charles Quadros-Secretary, Stanley Fernandes-Coordinator of Sampada, Priaya Qadros-Animator of Sampada, Mrs. Monica D’Souza-Convener of 20 Commissions and Mrs. Rekha D’Souza-President of the Stree Sanghattan.
Following the theme prayer and welcome by Mrs. Rekha D’Souza, Mrs. Wilma Rodrigues read the report of last year’s activities of the Stree Sanghattan.
Stanley Fernandes in his interaction with the women stressed on the need to have full participation of women in the self-help groups. He said that though there are 432 self-help groups in the Udupi Diocese which have been organized right from the parish level to the diocesan level, active participation of women has been on decline. He urged the women to show their unity and strength in building their self-help groups and attending the meetings regularly.
Mrs. Jyothi D’Souza introduced Dr. Judith Lobo, the resource person of the day.
Fr. George D’Souza presented a frame of the picture of the Holy Family to Dr. Judith Lobo as memento.
In his message, Fr. George D’Souza said that women in general have to bear the responsibility of the family. In modern times along with the family responsibility women have ben registering their presence in various fields of social and economic activities. Hence, their responsibilities have doubled and they have proved themselves by their dedication and hard work. God has given a big heart to women. It would be better if men also join in the celebration of the International Women’s Day so that they can understand the problems faced by women and share the burden of the women in their families in a meaningful way. He further said that women should take Mother Mary as their model and work for the betterment of their families, society and nation.

Mrs. Mabel Saldanha proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Reshma D’Souza compeered the programme.
Dr. Judith Lobo in her keynote address spoke on the health issues of women emphasizing on menopause, cancer of uterus and breast cancer.
Mrs. Jyothi and group presented a dance and Mrs. Reena D’Souza conducted few games for the women.
