Mangaluru: St Aloysius Cricket Academy at auspices of Karavali Cricket Academy Launched in city

Mangaluru, 01 Feb 2022: The soft launch of St Aloysius Cricket Academy (SACA) under the auspice of Karavali Cricket Academy was held at Centenary College Grounds, here on Tuesday, February 1 at 4.00pm.

 

The former Indian fast bowler David Johnson, St Aloysius Institutions rector Fr Melvyn Pinto SJ and St Aloysius College (Autonomous) principal Fr Dr Praveen Martis were the chief guests of the occasion.

 

 

SACA, which is managed by Karavali Cricket Academy (KCA) will focus on training at its state-of-the-art facilities to become resourceful cricketers.  The students trained here will be ahead of others, right on the top. As a second venture in Karnataka, turf wicket bowling machines will be in place including video analysis, sight screen, hand grass roller, batting tee, bowling nets and container. Some of the heroes are Sreesant (Indian team), Hrishith Shetty (Karnataka state U-14), Rohan Shetty (Wales University), Narayan Kamat (Goa state U-16), Vipin Lal (Kerala Ranji Team), Jayaprakash Shetty (Bangalore University and Vizzy Trophy, KPL player) and Ashwin Koppal (Karnataka state U-16).

SACA is part of KCA, a premier cricket coaching institution based in Southern India, headquartered at Mangaluru, Karnataka. KCA fully and engaged and committed to coaching and nurturing promising young cricketing talent of the region in particular. Ever since KCA’s inception in 1996 as Karavali Cricket Clinic has been conducting coaching camps/tournaments/clinics in major cricket playing towns and cities like Mangaluru, Udupi, Bengaluru, Madikeri in Karnataka; Kasargod, Talassery and Ernakulam in Kerala. They have successfully conducted a series of coaching camps for the potential youngsters who were schooled and nurtured in these camps by some of the cricketing greats of our time – such as Ramakant Achrekar (Tendulkar’s coach), E A S Prasanna, P V Sasikant and Daniel Johnson among others.

 

Their coaching faculty was initially headed by Syed Kirmani, the former Indian International cricketer.  Their camps also had visiting instructors Salim Durrani, Javagal Srinat, L Shivaramakrishnan, S Vishwanat and V B Chandrashekar – all former Indian international cricketers who have imparted their cricketing wisdom and skills to upcoming young cricketers.

 

Besides, they have also organized overseas cricket tours to Australia, Malaysia, UAE, UK South Africa and Sri Lanka that gave a great opportunity for their players to gain international exposure and experience of playing in different conditions. Many of them eventually made it to the state side and have established themselves as the key members of the state teams.

 

S Sreesant, the bowling spearhead of Indian cricket team belongs to their Ernakulum camp. Several boys have been selected for state teams (Karnataka and Kerala).

 

KCA has so far trained over 1,000 young cricketers in its various camps spread across several regions of Karnataka and Kerala.

 

KCA also won a number of contract championships at prominent cricket tournaments and even played Benson and Hedges International Limited over Cricket Tournament at Malaysia. Above all, KCA is recognized and affiliated through Karavali Cricket Clinic to Karnataka state Cricket Association.

 

Karavali Cricket Academy is headed by Santosh Misquith, chairman.
